Girl Crush: Leanne Shapton

I am not positive but I think that the lovely woman in this picture is writer, artist, illustrator and big time girl-crush of mine, Ms. Leanne Shapton whose work I have followed and obsessed over ever since I randomly stumbled upon her marvelous Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion, and Jewelry back in 2009. {Said book famously featured auteur-du-moment Sheila Heti and, for some reason, I remember hearing it was becoming a movie starring Brad Pitt but, I confess, that may have just been wishful thinking on my part}.

Shapton's new book is Swimming Studies. What do you with an all-absorbing activity once it's past its relevance, and yet you can't quite give it up? Shapton wonders. Is it possible to find a new purpose for its rigors and focus? The book has a little visual companion on Tumblr and gives an intimate glimpse into the very private and solitary practice of swimming through the eyes of an accomplished and methodical artist. I have not read the book yet, just stolen glances on the interwebs and am patiently awaiting my copy in the mail.

The picture of Leanne Shapton {or her uncanny look-alike} with her beautiful mustard Jimmy Choo clutch comes from The Cut's gallery of NY Fashion Week street photos.
