Monday Mantra: Make the Most of What You've Got

This is Olga Kostina, a retiree from the Russian village of Kamarchaga, in the Siberian taiga. She used over 30,000 plastic bottle caps to decorate her simple wooden home. Her work is inspired by the animals of the taiga and traditional Russian folk art. According to the reporter who snapped her photo, she's been doing this out of boredom. She collected the bottle caps and had nothing but time on her hands (not a whole lot of people live in her neck of the woods), so she started hammering away. I find this so wonderful and uplifting. No big deal, just there was some art that had to get out of her and some time to be spent.

As this new week rolls in, I wish you all to be similarly inspired and make the most of what you've got. Even if it is not as much as you think you deserve.

  1. amazing work, so inspiring. i love the number 41 and the flowers beneath it. thanks for sharing this.

    1. i love the 41, too! i think one of the reasons why i love this so much is that it reminds me of something my grandma would do.
