The Tunnel of Love

Photo via English Russia

What would your good be doing if there were no evil, and what would the earth look like if shadows disappeared from it? After all, shadows are cast by objects and people.
– The Master and Margarita, Mikhail Bulgakov

If you've spend 5 minutes on Pinterest, chances are you have already seen this image. I have loved it for so long and kept trying to figure out where it was from. Quite frankly, it reminded me of my favorite tram ride in Sofia, Bulgaria (the one from Park Hotel Moskva to the National Radio, through the park that surrounds the Theological Seminary) and I kept waiting for someone to come out and say that's where it was from. Well, it's not. But I did correctly sense that it's from my part of the world.

It's called "The Tunnel of Love" and is a one-kilometer stretch of railroad in Klevan, the Ukraine. I love this so much, it makes me oddly proud of being human. See, we don't fuck everything up.

  1. I thought of the exact same tram ride!
This is gorgeous. I think I will finally put Ukraine on my to-visit list.

  2. Warms up my heart. So beautiful.
